Life and times of Me

I grew up in a small town in Minnesota called Spring Valley (or Spring Ghetto as I affectionately call it…) There I graduated from High School in 1998.

I attended Luther College in Decorah, IA where I received a double major in History and Religion in 2002.

After college I joined Lutheran Volunteer Corps for a year. I worked at an amazing place in Chicago called Chicago Uptown Ministry as a Youth and Community Organizer. I was in charge of the youth programs: preschool care, after-school homework help (called Juntos), Junior and Senior High youth groups. I also worked with the food pantry program and did general homeless intake in the drop in center. I was a year I will never forget where I met amazing people and learned more about who I am and who I want to be.

While I was in LVC, one of my co-workers, Sherry, introduced me to her roommate, Justin. Not long after our introduction we were dating (with no small influence from Ms. Sherry) and were engaged a year later.

After my year of service was over I got a scholarship to attend Luther Seminary in St. Paul, MN – yes, they educate people at seminaries to be more than pastors! Crazy…I know! I received my Masters in Old Testament in 2005 and was married to Justin that summer.

Since seminary, I’ve been living in Chicago where I am currently the Administrative Assistant (Secretary) at North Shore Baptist Church. I enjoy my work and as part of my job I continue to work with the homeless community in the Uptown/Edgewater area.  I also am a Pampered Chef consultant, so if you’re interested in hosting a show, drop me a line!

My husband has applied to seminary to begin Fall 2009 (yes, he’s going to seminary to be a pastor, they do that too…). If accepted he will be in a 3 year program. After that, hopefully he’ll get a job somewhere and I will be able to go back to school myself!

I hope to someday be able to earn my PhD in Comparative Religion of the Ancient Near East and Hebrew Bible with a specialization in Assyrian religions and history. It’ll be a long road, but it’s what I enjoy.

I guess that’s me for now…enjoy my blog! Comment if you like!
